Buzz ‘N’ Interview W/ Bobby Johnson
Get Your Buzz Up was able to catch up with producer Bobby Johnson who is responsible for the incredible production on Que’s single “OG Bobby Johnson.”
What’s good homie how is everything going?
Going great, thank you!
Okay so let’s dive right into how did you link up with Que and also how did the track OG Bobby Johnson come about?
Pretty simple – I sent him some tracks, a couple weeks later he hit me on Twitter. That was around August when the track first appeared on DJ Smallz’ ‘Southern Smoke’ series.
Are you working closely with any artists other than Que?
Some artists I been working with for a while are Ransom, Neef Buck, Fredro Starr, Ace B8gie and The Rangers.Who are some producers that have influenced you?
When I started producing I was heavily influenced by Timbaland, The Neptunes, Needlz, Dr. Dre and Scott Storch. Their sound basically laid the foundation for my approach to making music. Right now I’m influenced by everybody who’s doing it really. Just yesterday I heard some new stuff by Shlomo. This guy is crazy.Do you feel the current climate of the music industry is favorable or unfavorable for the average career producer?
There’s definitely a lot of producers or beatmakers out there submitting and trying to get their stuff heard. I can’t really say if internet and new media have made it easier or harder to get attention. The infrastructure opens up a lot of possibilities, on the other hand pretty much everybody can participate – like me, having no industry contacts or relationships at all. In general my personal belief is that quality will always win. So if you find that niche, know your craft well enough and stay consistent you might actually have a realistic chance.Everyone has you as one of the producers to watch out for in 2014 does that add any pressure on you to deliver hits?
Not at all. It’s a great feeling to see people appreciate my music like that. Plus I know I got the material to follow up. I’m really looking forward to the future and to what might happen.
What tips can you give to up and coming producers to help them get their buzz up?
From my experience quality is the most important thing. That’s what really helps you to get your name out there and make people remember your name. That and staying consistent might help you to stack the odds in your favor. There are so many things you can’t affect but you sure can decide on what kind of music to put out.
Where can you be found?
@BobbyJohnsonBTS – Twitter and Instagram.
Shout outs?
Shout out to everybody rocking with me, my family, my girl and my friends who have to put it with me talking about nothing else than music all the time.
