It’s very seldom that an indie artist emerges onto the scene with a strong focus on enlightening the masses with clever lyricism and thought provoking content. Philly’s own Jay Rivers does just that and then some thru his music. His latest release, a freestyle effort by the name of “Shine”, does just this while paying homage to another envelope pushing artist, Kanye West.
A two part song, Jay first focuses on real life situations and his own struggles on the first half of the song speaking on hope traps and making his mother proud. This entry is soul shattering and shows his ability to stir up listener’s emotions. The latter half revisits Rivers’ childhood and has a very uptempo vibe to it.
The song is a promo effort to set up the debut of his “30: The EP” project debuting on June 7th. For more info pertaining to that, visit www.jayrivers.net.
