Former member of Minneapolis Hip-Hop crews Death Ray Scientific and Matching Wits, Tom Swifty has performed at shows with artists like Sage Francis, Guante, Wide Eyes, Phillip Morris, Kristoff Krane, Kanser, Solillaquists of Sound, Heiruspecs, Carnage, and the late, great Eyedea, among others. Swifty just released his latest, and possibly last, studio album titled Surreal Talk”. Here’s what Tom had to say about the project.
After rapping for over 12 years, this is my final solo album, recorded at the studio formerly owned by Jam Master Jay in Queens. I think it’s the best, most professional musical work I’ve ever done, but I’m now more focused on stand-up comedy. Don’t worry, though; I’ll most likely be back as a guest on other people’s tracks very soon. The album is free because I want everyone to hear it but please feel free to donate whatever you think it’s worth. I like to think this album has a little something for everybody: some heavy stuff, some mellow stuff, some thoughtful stuff, some stupid stuff. I give thanks to myself, the only god that I know, education is to blame for my dominant flow, and when the split comes between conscious and street, I just nod to the beat and pay homage to both. Surreal talk.
