Jilla! Always a pleasure talking with you and for our viewers who are hearing about you for the first time go ahead and let them know where you from?
I was born and raised in Rockford, IL. I’m originally from the south side of town (Lincoln Ave). I lived on just about every side of town, so I pretty much know the city like the back of my hand.
What kind of music do you like to listen to and what kind of music do you prefer to make?
Y’all might think I’m crazy, but, I prefer to listen to R&B and Reggae music! Music itself is dope, but the art and passion put into these two genres is special. I’m an old soul trapped in a young body!
I prefer to make a mixture of rap and R&B. I can do either or but rap would be my first choice. I go with R&B when dealing with the ladies!
What artists do you enjoy their music or the way they handle themselves?
I honestly enjoy Kendrick Lamar the most. He’s one of the artist that’s making a huge statement and doesn’t really say too much or be on the scene like majority of artists out.
How do you intend to be an innovative artist in the music industry?
My intentions are simple: come in the game and take it to another level. And I’m not even just speaking on the music standpoint. Promo, marketing, everything has to be next level. Nowadays, this industry is more about who you know, and not what you know.
How do you prepare yourself to perform in front of others (large crowds or smaller crowds)?
I prepare myself the same before any show. In the days leading up to the show, I always watch Jay Z’s Fade to Black documentary. Just to get my mind right. The night of, at the venue, I zone out everything completely and envision myself tearing the building down, whether it’s five people or five hundred.
What is something about you as an artist that motivates you?
What motivates me most is watching people come from nothing to being successful, whatever their profession of choice may be. Progression is a major motivation kick. Seeing people do what society deems unexpected.
