Beats, Rhymes & Relief is a non-profit organization utilizing the arts to raise awareness and support for worldwide humanitarian relief efforts. Beats, Rhymes & Relief harnesses the power of cultural diplomacy to raise the profile of global issues through high-profile public music concerts. Beats, Rhymes & Relief is a US based NGO headquartered in Washington, DC.
The foundation recently formed a music contest between 5 cities, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York & Washington D.C., and it focuses on positivity, community and hip hop. The idea is to reach out to each city to pick a producer, artists, graph writers & b-boys (girls) to represent for that particular area. Sometime later this year, a voting process will begin and the city with the most votes will be invited to D.C. for a special event honoring them.
Today, Chicago’s entry was released via Youtube & www.beatsrhymesandrelief.com. The title of the video/song is “Shine” and features clever lyricism from Picasso Cerrado, Angrous, G/NO, Sarcastik, Clifton Hunt (who is also the voice behind the chorus) & Scrappy. The song was mixed and produced by JCA Beats Productions, who are better known for songs such as Maintain’s “Surprise” & Che Skizza’s “Easy” and did a sick flip of a Muddy Waters record.
The video was filmed during a BR&R event that took place in Englewood, IL in which the foundation gave out free haircuts, backpacks, school supplies & furniture. It was truly an epic event and the video reflects on just how much love and positivity came out of hosting such an event. Overall, the entry captures the heart of Chicago and depicts just how influential Hip Hop is to the community & humanity.
