(Mixtape Review)-@Walkstherunner “Loquacious Linquist”

It’s not a secret that Madison emcee Walks The Runner isn’t hesitant at trying to fit in as many words as possible on each bar he recites. With that being said, we can fully understand why he chose the title, “Loquacious Linquist”, for his debut release. The dictionary definitions of each word is as follows; “Loquacious”- Adjective- Talkative & “Linquist”- Noun- 1. A person who speaks several languages fluently. 2. A specialist in linguistics. On that note, let’s dive into the project and break it down.

Walks wastes no time going in from the jump over the KloQwYse produced “Loquacious”. The vocal samples and insane string chops set up the Clutch Ink emcee to drop lines like, “vivacious kicks and loquacious speech/ woke up in the morning, ate a fucking beat” and “yall sound like pussies/ MC Queef”. This is one of the songs that perfectly defines Runner’s persona. We then get broke off with the DJ Pain 1 assisted, “Ain’t Tryna Hear It”, which is the next single to drop from the mixtape with video to follow. Walks explains why he’s sick of hearing irrelevant bullshit and urges others to step it up. “Pretty Girls” has an intensely strong resemblance to A Tribe Called Quest’s “Electric Relaxation”. It’s a laid back, jazz infused track speaking about a special someone, but adds a “medicinal” touch to it.

On “Eyein’ Me Up”, DJ Pain 1 offers up yet another great production. Along with Modern Era Music’s Micheal Medall, the duo get extremely lyrical and prove that real emcees are a dying breed. With “Shut Em Down”, Walks goes in hard on what I would call an anthem track. Micheal Medall once again teams up with Walks on the ultra dope “Bein’ Me”. This tracks self explanatory; 2 lyricists spitting crazy over a Troy Karstens production. Tefman and Walks keep it 100 on “Century”, which was produced by Chris Heist and keeps the mixtape moving.

KloQwYse drops another “strictly hip hop” record on “How Much” where Walks professes how much he loves music and the grind behind it. He then drops his next track, “The Lights”; an introspective track that details the lifestyle of the music business and asks “are you scared of the lights”? The next songs on the mixtape have been previously released and are what started to set this particular project up. “Air Jordans And Polos”, “Trainwreck”, “Encore” and “Carpe Diem” were all produced by Troy Karstens and are very uptempo and adrenaline filled. The mixtape last 3 songs are an ode to Walks crew and home, Clutch Ink Records and features Rachstar.

“Loquacious Linquist” is a well thought out, produced and delivered project. With quality features and slick wordplay from Walks on damn near every track, it’s definitely worth downloading and finding it’s way into your “recently played” tab on your iPod. My Fab 5 are “Loquacious”, Eyein’ Me Up”, “Bein’ Me”, “How Much” and “The Lights”.
