M.E. Management & Consulting is proud to present DRT MiNDZ newest mixtape, “FTW”. DRT MiNDZ consists of a two man duo by the names of Freequenc and Sillabus and hail from out of the Madison, Wisconsin region. The mixtape contains 12 tracks and has features from Yahtzee, Jahni Haze and Treva La Viva. From first listen, the group’s music can be compared to an earlier Rehab but with a heavier emphasis on hip hop. The guys obviously share a passion for marijuana and partying, as heard on “Mary Jane” and all throughout the album.
The mixtape starts out with the raucous, “The Kill”, a good intro to get to know just how DRT MiNDZ thinks and feels. On “Shots”, they live up to their F.T.W. attitude; downing shots and flippin birds to the cops. On “What I Need”, Freequenc & Sillabus mix classic hip hop with a country twag and lets everybody know exactly what it takes to get them revved up. Very dope production on this track, check how they flip the samples and speed up the bpm towards the end. “Rebel Music” takes an ode from D12’s “Purple Pills” in the chorus and uses the “drunken slurred” technique which is dope.
This is where the mixtape starts to slow down a bit and puts the listener into a mellow mood. “Solid Gold” has a very classic hip hop feel to it; urging peeps to put their lighters way up high in the sky. “Isolated” addresses how DRT MiNDZ thinks outside the box which leaves them isolated from the typical rapper stereotype. This brings us to “Ms. Keato”, a conceptual record that tells the tale of a wild night out at the bar and that “ratchet chick” moment most of us have encountered before. A very funny and interesting track by far. The mixtape concludes with “Liberation”, which has a “fight for your right” kind of feeling to it.
“FTW” is a great mixtape and offers listeners something different aside from the piggy backers and cookie cutter rappers out now. DRT MiNDS aren’t afraid to bend genres and make music that isn’t typically mainstream but that’s what hip hop has always been about. Go download the mixtape for free and wail out a F.T.W. along with the fellas when you’re at it.
