Buzz “N” Interview W/ @itzjackdanz @JoeMilly @Darealmrdevine

What’s up Nexx Move Productions? For those new to the name who are you and what each of you do?

JD- My Name is “Hannibal” Jack Danz I’m the Jack of ALL Trades , Master of all Trades for us.. I wear many hats..Primarily I work with Devine in running the company and my duties consist of finding new talent, trying to figure out what projects we need to work on ,and where we need to be as far networking and public relation opps etc. Also being that I’m a songwriter I have a big say in creatively taking the music from concept to finished product.

MD- Well I go by the name of Mr. Devine, I was signed to Ruff Ryders in 2001 as an in house producer. I’ve produced records for DMX, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, Mashonda and a whole lot of others. Me and Jack look for talented producers to sign them to Nexx Move Inc. and work out deals to shop their beats and create placement opps for them.

JM- I go by Joe Milly. I’m a 22 year old college graduate out of Long Island New York. I’ve been producing records in the hip-hop/R&B genre since I was about 14. I was featured on TRL when I was 18 during an unsigned spotlight feature. The buzz created from MTV lead to big meetings with important industry names and grammy award winning engineers. I produced Jadakiss’ single “Without you” and have a bunch of projects in the works set to release.

How did you all link to create this powerhouse of a production company?

JD- Well Devine and I have known each other forever and a day but we lost touch yet re-linked a couple of times and just decided to start rocking and working together. Through each of our relationships and skills we just try to make things work. Joe fell in our laps through DJ XXXotic Mami who is another talent that I consult, mentor and manage. She linked him with Mr. Devine and basically Devine was really excited about him and decided to bring him on board as our first producer.

Creatively how do you approach each production opportunity?

MD- depends on the producer and situation, what the producers looking for also.

JD- Just depends, every situation is unique and has to be dealt with accordingly. If you actually get the chance to get in the lab with an artist that’s great but make often not it just a matter of getting lucky and having something that catches them. Personally when selecting beats and writing for an artist like to be familiar with their music

JM- If i’m familiar with the artist I’ll have a pretty decent idea of where I’m going to head with the record. If not, I’ll listen to their projects thoroughly to establish some ideas.

Mr Devine, how did you get into the production game?

MD- Well I used to dj in the 90’s. I wound up befriending a local Dj/producer named Dj Kool Gee, we would practice cuts at each other cribs. Kool Gee wound up getting real cool with Tragedy from Queens bridge who wound up lending him a Mpc 60. Tragedy was putting together a two man rap group by the name of Capone N Noreaga so he wanted Kool Gee to use the Mpc and make beats. So in that process me being around Kool Gee using it I started to learn how to use it also which lead to me buying a mpc for myself eventually. The rest is history, Kool Gee changed his named to Ayatollah later on.

Jack Danz, as a writer how are you integrated into the creative process?

JD- Well that varies to me, there are 3 types of writing processes. One is the process that I do personally where I select a track and kinda just write what I feel with no direction or input ; just doing what I want. Secondly is when I write with a particular artist, subject or direction in mind. This is usually when you receive input from like an A&R,the artist or manager directly or like a who’s looking list or track dump or something of that sort. Then lastly there is my favorite.. the fill in the blank. That usually happens when an artist just spits some verses over a beat and doesn’t really have a idea how to lay a hook to bring it all together and I have to do that.

Joe Milly, talk about your first placement with Jadakiss and how its helped your career thus far?

JM- Being that Kiss is one of my favorite rappers of all time, it was truly surreal. It opened a lot of doors and the placement was very necessary to help keep my name relevant. I had fell off for a while to take care of my college degree. A lot of industry names reached out and I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback. Being that Kiss is top 5 dead or alive naturally other rappers would want to follow suit and get tracks from me as well.Lol

What kind of advice can you give new producers trying to get their feet wet in the game?

MD- I would tell them to perfect their craft, in other words find what makes themselves stand out as a producer and something that seperate’s them from the rest of the competition and stick to that. Remain humble, and put the work in, it may take a while but if they stay at it a situation will present itself.

JD- I agree practice makes perfect so doing so well only help you get better and more advanced. I think more so now than in the past its just as important to be well versed in other aspects of the industry as far as knowing your business and understanding legal things and also being ethical. Hip-Hop is a street culture so a lot of people that are relevant now or make the decisions are from the streets or have some knowledge of how things go and I think dudes get lil things twisted that ultimately affect how you deal with them. I’m big on loyalty and people keeping their word applying the golden rule in mostly everything you do in life in general and I think alot of dudes coming in act like suckers instead of being upfront about how they wanna do things. Talent is one thing but as we have seen with many examples its not talent that totally carries people.. its relationships interaction with other people and perception that will ultimately keep you hot and afloat..

What’s Next for Nexx?

MD- Clothing Line, creating more placement opps for more producers and skys the limit after that.

JD- Just working to help Joe get hotter.. to help Devine get hotter, to help my self get hotter and whoever else chooses to get down with the movement …
