(New Mixtape)-@JUMZ_Forever “Independents Day”

Indie artist JUMZ was born and raised in the neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City. Of course living in the world’s melting pot it was only natural for him to grow up listening to a variety of music, except there was one sound that captivated him the most… Hip Hop. Inspired by a neighborhood friend who was pursuing a career in Hip Hop at the time, JUMZ started writing raps before he even heard the MC’s he calls his idols till this day. Rappers such as the late BIG, Nas, the group Wu-Tang, and The Fugees became a few of JUMZ’s favorites while he honed his skills as a rap artist. But up until the death of his Father and being abandoned by his family at the age of 17, rap music became the best way for him to vent his frustrations to the world. He would lock himself in the room for hours and hours writing songs to popular beats.

Eventually, JUMZ would hit NYC’s underground scene by storm performing at all of the open mics and showcases New York had to offer. His work ethic earned him a spot on Grandmaster Flash’s first album in 20 years “The Bridge” on the track “Shine All Day” alongside another legend Q-tip the Abstract and Kel Spencer. Then with a tour oversees and shows across the country, he became one of the most known unknowns in hip hop until last year when he was nominated for Rapper of The Year at the Underground Music Awards which garnered him the attention of all the industry. Now being backed by popular DC indie label ASquad Records and representation from HoodLife’s own Terrell Blair, JUMZ has delivered a masterpiece of a mixtape this week with, Independents Day.
