James Bowen who goes by the stage name Dope Boy was born July 1990 in Oakland, Ca. Dope Boy began rapping at the age 14, but the beginning of his music career was halted at the age of 15 due to being incarcerated. Serving time in CYA for 2 years upon release Dope Boy went back into his music forming a group with his blood cousins known as the Knock Em Down Click. The group went on to produce a local hit called “Sex Machine” during that same time the song was rising Dope Boy was re-incarcerated and sent to CDC where he served a year. Upon his release Dope Boy went back into the studio as a solo artist where his new single “John Gotti” was created. Dope Boy has over came many obstacles in his life, from losing his favorite cousin in 2010 to his mom being shot only months later. It is his passion for music and his struggle that makes him go hard in the booth. His music is real, and you can expect to hear great things in the near future.
