GETYOURBUZZUP: What’s Good DB!?
Spook: Nothing much man, Just chillin out here…Makin this music, man.
Boochie: Hell yea.
Spook: Tryna make it to the top.
GETYOURBUZZUP: Your single “2x (Two Times)” has very much a southern swag to it. Can you tell us what inspired the track?
Spook: Alright, the inspiration behind “2x” was actually….it actually was in a song by the name of “Run It” and you can check that out on [our] “Real Recognize Real” mixtape that we just released…well we didn’t JUST release it but …it’s the latest one…Nick James was rapping on the third verse and he kinda added…some flavor to the end of it…We were like ‘yo man let’s use THAT for a hook!’ And that’s how the whole song began…Then after that, people just started writing to it…getting it going.
GETYOURBUZZUP: OK. Now you guys are relatively new to the music industry as a group. What have you learned about working as a group?
Spook: One thing that I know, (points to Boochie) and I’ll let him talk too. But, working as a group…it’s a lot. It’s A L-O-O-O-T… A LOT more difficult than what people think, you know what I’m saying. But whenever everything runs smoothly…whenever we’re a well-oiled machine…things go WELL…But we have to stay in line…always stay about our business in order for things to always run smoothly tho.
Boochie: What was the question again? (Smiles)
(Laughter)
GETYOURBUZZUP: (Repeats question)
Spook (interrupts): I know another thing I learned too. Another thing you learn from working in a group…It’s not so much…it’s not…the focal point is not on YOU…You’ll learn other peoples
Boochie (interrupts): Styles…
Spook: Mannerism, styles, yea, all that stuff like that. So it kinda…broadens you, because it’s not just YOU…other people can help sharpen what you got going on too…
GETYOURBUZZUP: What are some of the positives and negatives of working in a group?
Spook: Positives… (Stops to think)
Boochie (interrupts): I think positives out of me working in a group…[Well] you still want to be focused, but at the same time you have a lot more help…as instead of just doing it solo. But also when it comes to working with a group it can be a downfall, especially…when you got a song with a person on it and someone can’t make it [to the studio to record].
GETYOURBUZZUP: When can we expect your next project to drop?
Boochie: End of June.
Spook (confirms response): The end of the June…cause Nick’s stuff comes out June…
Boochie (completes Spooks sentence): [Yea, Nick James’s project comes out] in the beginning of June…
GETYOURBUZZUP: What’s the name…?
Spook: We are not…We’re undecided about the name. We gotta get the name down pact.
Boochie: Something– “Real Recognize Real” tho…A different version
Spook: Yea, some type of sequel.
GETYOURBUZZUP: Who influenced you musically?
Spook: Musically?
GETYOURBUZZUP: Musically. Like groups, artists, labels…
Boochie: Ummm…I say T.I. at the time we started. [Since] I wasn’t really listening to Future like that [yet], in the beginning when we FIRST started doing [music]…T.I., Fressh…[he’s] really the one that got the music [going for us]…that’s really about it…
Spook: My circle influences me big time…you always got the ones that stand [out]…like old heads like Outkast and all that…they influenced me…but right now, my team is influencing me, man. I don’t really listen to anything outside like that cause I’m focused on what we got goin’ on…so….[they’re] my main influence.
GETYOURBUZZUP: GetYourBuzzUp strives to help Indie artists understand the music industry. What are some tips that you can provide for artists that are just starting out in the game?
Spook: Stay Hungry.
Boochie: Stay focused…hungry, like [Spook] said, dedicated, motivated…
Spook: Just cause you don’t get a good turnout, or you’re not received…how you thought you would be…Keep it moving…because, you know, your music might not be for the people that you presented it to…so you gotta keep it going regardless of what happens. If you really believe in yourself, then show it…and work for it 100 percent!
Boochie: Yep, because the crowd of people [you were in front of] might be looking for some different kinda music…they might not be looking at the same kinda music you’re looking at…
Spook: And keep your circle tight. You got folks that’ll break you down, so keep your circle tight, man.
GETYOURBUZZUP: Let the people know where they can find you…
Spook: In the streets…
Boochie: Youtube, [the] Southside…(laughs)
Spook: Southside. Youtube… (Asks Boochie) what’s the name of the page [on Youtube]?
Boochie: DemBoyz Music GRP…Twitter @IamBoochie3
Spook: @Spook_FO2…that’s F-O…then the number two. Then we got [our] twitter page…
Boochie: Twitter @DemBoyz_Music
GETYOURBUZZUP: Anything else yall wanna add…?
Spook: I just want people to know that just because they hear this song…“2x (Two Times)” cause it’s really hot right now, don’t think that’s the only thing we got up on the shelf. We have a BROAD, broad variety of all types of music that everybody can really vibe to. So we’re not just stuck in one lane …per say, we’re versatile in what we do.
Boochie: Yea, that’s the kind of music—anything you want, we got it. Singing…rapping…streets…
Spook: ALL OF IT. Also, that writing tip too…Anybody need our services in writing need to hit us up, cause we got writing skills also.
