GetYourBuzzUp.com Interview

Hey Ivy League Alumni, for those new to the name let the readers now who you are and what you do.

Well we’re a rap trio but most importantly we’re entertainers. The three off us all have different sounds & approaches to music & that seems to be what draws most people to us. You get a little bit of everything on every single record we put out & that is what sets us apart from anyone or anything that’s out in the market today.

How did you get your start as an artist?

Our start? Wow we’ve been working together for so long that the beginning is kind of a blur. Well I guess our real “start” coming together & forming the group was in college. We were all solo artists but after doing a few records together people just seemed to like the way we sounded together. Again, we all brought something different to the table. Cess has always been the wildchild of the group & is always gonna give you the most entertaining verses, JRah is very laid back & will give you that cool flow but the bars are crazy if you listen closely & Charma is the innovator who’s gonna give you the left field flows & try new things. Today’s industry is full of a bunch of trend hoppers & artists who are beating a dead horse in terms of what works. Music today needs variety, it needs creativity, it needs Ivy League Alumni.

Congrats on winning a recent ‘Get Your Buzz Up’ event in NYC, how does it feel to get recognized for your talent?

It feels great! It’s a funny story because we entered the showcase a day before the event so we were stressing out & rushing to make sure we had everything we needed to participate. Then to go out there & win first place? Its an incredible feeling & it reassures us that the hard work is paying off. Actually one of the best parts of it was getting our score sheets from the judges. Rockwilder gave us a perfect score. What? Grammy award winning Rockwilder? One of the sickest producers in the game Rockwilder? That was surreal for us. That score sheet is going in a picture frame lol. Don’t sleep on us, all we needed was one opportunity like this & its a snowball down the mountain from here.

When you are on stage performing what can the fans expect to see? What do you want them to remember?

The fans can expect to be entertained. As fans coming to one of our shows we already expect you to know & like the music, that’s why you came to see us in the first place. Now its up to us to go above & beyond just performing our records & put on a show. What separates a good artist & a great artist is their ability to connect with their fans in person & have them leaving the shows like “WOW that show was crazy I wanna see it again.” We’re not gonna give you guys all of our secrets but we can promise that coming to an Ive League Alumni show is gonna be a good ass time.

Are your working on any current mixtapes? Videos? New Single? Let us know what to watch for.

We have an EP coming out soon that we’ll expand on in a bit. Other than that we have an in studio performance video coming out with Kwan Lee TV soon & we’re also gonna be heavy on the Ustream & we’re gonna be putting out a bunch of behind the scenes videos for you guys as well. Our lives are so wild & crazy that we feel like its something we have to share with yall. To fully appreciate our music we feel like you guys have to know us outside of music as well & luckily, with all the social media & video streaming sites, we feel like we can deliver that to you pretty easily. Its like you guys are our neighbors or something.

Who are your musical influences?

We have a bunch of different artists that influence us musically. If we had to narrow it down to like 5 we’d say Outkast, Michael, Jimmy Hendrix, Slaughterhouse & Run DMC. I feel like these artists have influenced us the most creatively as well as given us an idea of how the whole group dynamic can be successful.

What project are you currently promoting?

We have an EP that we’re gonna be putting out soon so keep your ears open for that. There are gonna be about 5 songs on the project & its more or less a sample of what The League has to offer. Its nothing like anything you’ve heard from anyone out now I can promise you that. We had mad fun recording it so expect to have a good time listening to it. Feel good music at its best.

How are you trying to stand out as a new artist?

We’re different. We don’t trend hop, we don’t chase the hit records, we just do what we know how to do best & its different. There aren’t many rap groups out now that are really doing much other than Slaughterhouse & Travis Porter & even so, we aren’t in direct comparison with either of them. I’d actually say we have elements of both groups in our music, & maybe throw some Outkast in there. The three of us bring something innovative & different to the table & it just so happened that our styles meshed so well together. Give our music a listen & you’ll understand. The League is here & its here to stay.

Any last words for the readers?

Yeah man definitely. To all the readers who already mess with us we’d like to thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts because its your constant support that motivates us to keep recording & keep growing as entertainers. To all the readers who haven’t had a chance to hear our music, take a listen. If you’re tired of the same old recycled, half assed noise that some artists are putting out now then come give us a try. Just know that The League is nothing without yall.

Where can we find you online?

You can find us on facebook, twitter, reverb nation, myspace & youtube, all at /theleague_music
