New News-@608ShaH ‘ShaH’s Buzz Factor’

I have thought about this very long and hard on
how to address this issue, and every time it leads me to the same place, to be
honest, upfront, and to show no mercy.  May 26th
Scott Piernot, the owner of Scatz Bar and Grill in Middleton
Wisconsin was asked if he would eliminate Hip-Hop music and events in order to
get his liquor license re-instated.  This
same man who came to a meeting and sat down with the Madison Hip-Hop Awards committee
and asked them for help against Middleton, the ALRC, and  police (who have been very upfront about their
displeasure with Hip-Hop and the fact that it brings too many African Americans
to their town) , had this to say, “There is oftentimes a bad element that
follows the cutting edge of pop culture before it becomes more mainstream or
matures. I made a huge business mistake to give a genre of music that clearly
has a bad element of followers, a regular night on Thursday.”  Scatz barely did live Hip-Hop shows to begin
with.  They only did DJ parties which only
played the top 40(a lot more than just Hip-Hop) and a handful of live shows.

What I find funny is these college parties that
can have stabbings or fights and no one seems to care.  Less than a month ago, at The Mifflin St.
Block Party, college students were allowed to have open intoxicants and music
stages in the street and what happened?  Two
stabbings occurred (one of which caused the victim to be in critical condition)
and nothing is being said about shutting it down.  Instead, they get a piece on the news of
which showed students who were obviously intoxicated being asked what they saw
and how many hours had they been drinking!
It’s just another example of a non-Hip-Hop issue being swept under the
rug as if nothing happened.  There is
such a double standard when it comes to hip hop.  When a fight breaks out between people at a
hip-hop show everyone is labeled a thug or gangsta, but when it happens at a
college party or a rock show its just two drunken people fighting.   Plain and simple the town of Middleton does
not look at Hip-Hop as a music genre.  They
look at it as black people showing up and causing problems.   So it would be fair to say that Middleton is
still living in the 50’s and 60’s?  It
appears that they don’t want anything that isn’t white or at least under a
white hood and robe.

To the entire Hip-Hop community in Madison, actually the
world, please don’t just sit back and allow people like this to destroy a
culture or better yet a movement that was built decades ago.  Stand up and let your voice be heard!!!!!

  1. U hit that right on point fam. Its definitely a double standard. The sad thing is a lot of the clubs around here are doing the same thing. Its kinda pathetic to see how no matter how much some things change they still remain the same. Smfh

  2. The racism in Wisconsin runs deep and unfortunately, Hip Hop is being caught up in the middle. I hope we can bring some more attention to this issue cause then we might actually be able to achieve some change. Great piece though, I would have never have known about this otherwise. Much love and success as always,
