New ‘Buzzin’ Interview w/ Rediculus (Producer)

Tell us about you and your movement.

Peace man thanks for taking the time to talk to me.  I’m Rediculus, producer for Knowledge Giving Birth Productions and the brains behind the Masters of Conversation album series. Knowledge Giving Birth and the Masters of Conversation series is all about making hip hop that reflects where it comes from and moves towards the future of how its going to sound.  We’re focused on making great instrumental tracks that MC’s can create song with to inspire new generations to come.  There’s myself as the producer, MC’s Rich Malone, Lewi Ldn, Pair-a-Dyce, Solomon D’Augustine and the group 1Fifty1.

When did you start to develop your artistry?

I started producing back in the mid 90’s as a hobby and opened my first recording studio in early 2000.  I basically was fed up with where hip hop was going musically and figured if I was going to bitch about it I might as well help to change it.

Who are some of your musical influences?

My mom would play anything from Statler Brothers and Kenny Rogers to Aretha to Billy Holiday to Styx and Talking Heads so early on I heard a lot of different types of music.  When I got into hip hop some of the producers that have definitely helped me find my sound are DJ Muggs, D Nice, Eric Sermon, Sam Sever, SD-50’s Rick Ruben, Dre (definitely try to get all my mixes sounding like Dre tracks), RZA, Premo, Pete Rock, and even cats like Peter Frampton and Thomas Dolby.

What current projects are you working on?

I’m currently promoting my debut instrumental album “Walking Down Broken Paths” which came out thru my distribution situation at Def Jam and I’m in the studio working on several things as well.  The next Masters of Conversation album is due out before the summer with a ton of folks on it so I’m wrapping up recording that soon, Lewi Ldn and I have a project this year, 1Fifty1 is dropping an album and going on a tour with Sen dog from Cypress Hill, Pair-a-Dyce has a mixtape and album coming this year, Rich Malone’s mixtape is done and his album starts soon and Prome is back with the camp again and he should have something this year as well.

How are you planning to ‘Get Your Buzz Up’?

Continue to push out quality music most importantly.  In this age of digital distribution channels and home recording studios, consumers are constantly bombarded with mediocre music.  I think the easiest way to get my name moving is to make music that blows other cats stuff out of the water and then making sure I have a good team working the music so it can be heard above all the other music out there.
