The Lithonia, Georgia representative also looks toward African-American figures such as Malcolm X, Huey Newton and MLK for mental inspiration. Thick string arrangements sit over a sinister bass line, the ideal mixture to accompany Smith’s voice and brain jewels. Real life scenarios are something Zane leans on heavy for his discography. “Joy & Pain” is of no exception as he speaks about knowledge of self and the pitfalls of every day life for us all.
