After firing off a succession of epic freestyles on Sway In The Morning that galvanized the listening public, followed up by a curated release of well-received singles, Nick Grant formally introduces himself on his debut mixtape, “‘88”. The project name derived from Nick’s birth year, but it also evokes that era in hip-hop when individuality, storytelling, diverse subject matter and musical experimentation were not only the norm, but respected. That period of time known as “The Golden Age of Hip-Hop”.
Preferring to establish his own voice, collaborations on the 13-track mixtape are kept to a minimum, however Young Dro, BJ The Chicago Kid and Stacy Barthe all make appearances. Southern heavyweights Killer Mike and Big K.R.I.T. deliver poetic flows on the “Royalty” Remix, which solidifies Nick’s impending status as a disruptive game changer. The original version paired the MC with CyHi The Prynce, someone he met on the open mic circuit in Atlanta.
