Montreal R&B singer Chaz DeFranco has been very busy these past 4 months. With his last two singles (“Better Off / New Girl” & “Train Wreck”) fairing quite well on both Soundcloud and iTunes, the Canadian crooner officially kicked off a new music campaign titled #songsunday on July 12th that will have it’s eighth and final entry released on August 30th.
Which brings us to this week’s entry and fifth installment in the series and it’s by far his most personal release to date. The song is titled “Torreón” and what a back story it has. During his extensive travels to Mexico in his early twenties, Chaz developed a relationship with a woman by the name of Angela Del Río that ultimately ended on a sour note. Though some time has passed, the relationship has always weighed heavy on his heart.
This is where things began to heat back up. After stumbling across her on Twitter, the two ended up hosting a phone convo in which DeFranco learned she had won the Coahuila State Pageant (which Torreon is the capital of) and was a Miss Mexico finalist. After the convo, Chaz immediately began penning all his feelings into song. Soon after, music producer Penacho and long-time collaborator and friend Bobby John provided the ideal soundscape for Chaz to release his emotions out over.
Once the song premiered on August 9th, Chaz contacted Angela Del Río to present it to her. She was so moved that not only did tears fall from her eyes, she put him in direct contact with Capital FM Torreon with high hopes the song will finds it’s way into rotation.
We here at GYBU found this background story to be exceptional and was pleased that Chaz revealed so many details behind the release. So without further ado, we present to you Chaz DeFranco’s, “Torreón”.
