With both Hex One and 5th Element being huge fans of Big Pun, “Deep Cover ’14” was born out of admiration, celebration and as a tribute to his life and musical impact. In 2007, as part of his first mixtape, 5th Element remixed the song “Twinz”, adding his own beat to the classic song. It seemed only right for Hex to do the same in some way by instead “remixing” the lyrics. He takes on the task of using not only the same rhyme scheme but also the same rhymes but with completely different words.
