With an almost constant stream of new music, music centered multimedia, and the “trend watch” that is the music industry, singer-songwriter Candace K and producer Chuck.$oul[beats] take it back….way back. Finding inspiration from the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s the duo combines soul, blues, funk and jazz influences to create a project that wouldn’t have been out of place in a record store window circa 1970. “The Soul Stacks” EP features 6 tracks with love serving as the underlying theme. Chuck $oul.[beats] masterfully crafts soulful backdrops for Candace K to explore her depth as a songwriter and artist. Displaying both range and creativity it’s a shame the project is only an EP.
Touching on subjects that resonate with women Candace pours her heart out. “Good To You” finds the singer giving the details of what a relationship would be like with her. The funky “Come Over” is an ode to casual companionship. Candace explains the pains of waiting on “Anticipate”. “Tomorrow” is a very poignant track about letting someone know how you feel before it’s too late. “Love’s Games” is exactly that, a song about playing games with one’s heart. With a throwback style, Candace K and Chuck $oul[beats] have done their best to create timeless music.
