(Mixtape Review)- @BrotherAli “Left in the Deck” Produced by @JakeUno

Smooth as silk, would be the best description of Brother Ali’s latest release “Left in the Deck”. Teaming up with long time production collaborator Jake One, Ali delivers a mixtape that is better than most rapper’s albums. Billed as a demo-style collection of recordings from basements and hotel rooms while on tour the project sounds incredibly well put together. Jake knows exactly how to get the best out of Brother Ali with soulful samples and the sounds of live instrumentation. Clocking in at under 30 minutes of total listening time it’s the perfect introduction for new listeners or a solid collection piece for seasoned fans.

Brother Ali has never been the in your face jumping and shouting type of rapper and with deep subject matter, intricate rhyme schemes, and a penchant for revealing life’s truths he doesn’t have to be. “Not A Day Goes By” finds Ali with a sped up flow spitting “I love you guys, I just want y’all to see the truth about it/ If you don’t love yourself ain’t nothing I can do about it!” “It took like 15 years for me to get what I want/ but the time would of passed without me tryin or not”, are lyrics found on “Rapper Thing”. Showing both his admiration and aggravation for the game that made him, Brother Ali never strays from what made him, him. If quality hip hop is what you’re looking for than Brother Ali’s latest won’t be found anywhere but “Left in the Deck”.
