Buzzin Interview W/ @GTtheClassic

Gil Thompson known to many as GT is on fire right now with the new release of his album “Windows to My Soul”. GT plays no games at all when he wants to showcase his talent in regards to being a hip-hop emcee. The Allentown, PA bred lyrical monster is also a full time family man and always finds time to manage both. One thing GT feels is that right now with his music capabilities all he needs is that great support system and a shot, then it’s on.

Windows to My Soul is a project that can be addictive especially when you hear records such as “Stampede” and “Just Like Me” ft. Katie Roman. We get with GT for a talk for a special opportunity to know the man behind the music.

GT aka the lyrical beast, what going on with you man. I’m loving this new “Windows To My Soul” album, let the hip-hop fans know what good with it.

I’m doing real good. I got my family and I’m healthy so I can’t complain. And I appreciate the feedback on the album I worked hard on it. I’ve been doing music for years so it feels good to get such a positive response on my most personal project yet. I made the album with the hopes of inspiring and touching people. So if you looking for great Hip-Hop that’s lyrical, has a great message and contains relatable themes I feel “Windows to my soul” is an album for you.

You are two people I can say, GT the hip-hop artist but also Gil Thompson the family man. Describe the two people and what you love most about each person?

The artistic side of me wants to be in the Hip-Hop history books with many classic albums. The artistic side wants to rock crowds of millions touching people all over the world. But most importantly the artistic side wants to be able to sit back one day and know in my heart that I made a difference in peoples lives. I love Hip-Hop to the point I’m addicted to it. So the greatest part of me as an artist is that you will never see me release a song that isn’t a representation of who I really am. I’m always going to make what’s in my heart. The family man side of me is dedicated to making life for my wife and daughter as fulfilling as possible. The family man in me will do anything to make sure love, respect, wisdom and understanding exist in my household. And best of all I believe in growing as an individual and leading as an example for others to follow.

You come from Allentown, Pa which is a small town, how were you able to network with the resources limited to push your music?

Well the honest truth is perseverance, patience and luck. Whenever I would perform there would always be a group of people that would show me love. So that lead to me meeting all types of people that were willing to assist me with my dream. It’s also important for artists to invest in themselves, cause if you are willing to put money in yourself people will notice how serious you are.

Listening to the album I took a great liking to the record “Stampede” talk about this record. It reminds me of something that like a feel good hip-hop record, that will make the crowd go crazy?

Stampede is actually going to be my next single so its funny you mentioned that one. When I heard that beat the flows came to me 1st and I just kept mumbling in rhythm till the words came. The concept is me saying I want Hip Hop fans to help me stampede the movement of challenging emcees to really rip the mic. It’s a deviant record like “I see ya’ll over there with your garbage rhymes so I’m here with the Hip Hop community to snatch your mic from you and show you how its done”.

The opening to the album “Destiny” was something serious as well, I guess you wanted to start the album off right huh?

Yeah definitely! I know how most music fans today are not patient enough to really get through an album these days. And because they don’t give certain artists a full listen their judgment of that artist can be premature. That’s why as soon as the track comes on you hear me say “They say a mans destiny is judged by how many people he affects in his life, I think about that everyday, So I had to grab hold of my destiny! “. I say that in the 1st track so you know right away what I’m about and have the choice to either ride with me or not. Cause I rather have people know what they’re getting into so if they become fans they’ll be genuine and really support what I’m trying to do. Other than that I just wanted to start off this album with something inspiring and epic. I feel that emotion came through really well on that track.

I love the 1st single from the album “Just Like Me” ft. Katie Roman, you need to have a video for that man, is that in the works?

Right now I’m just playing around with some ideas and still figuring it out, but yeah a video will definitely get made.

Nydy Newsense produced the entire album, can you talk about the relationship and chemistry you dudes have when in the studio. What also made you get the entire album produced from Nydy Newsense.

Nydy Newsense is actually my younger brother so the chemistry is a given (laughs). Nydy has been producing for years always trying to perfect his craft, and since I was there to witness it I knew 1st hand what he was capable of. There are producers that are only good for a hit or two, but it takes a special producer to craft a cohesive project with many different moods. Nydy is one of those special ones and I know in my heart once he gets his opportunity he will make a mark in Hip-Hop.

Being the lyrical beast that you are, give me some of your favorite lyricist ever. Also if you could do a song with these dudes what would you name it?

I could go on forever naming my favorite wordsmiths. But to name a few I’d say Rakim, Nas, Krs-One, Kool G Rap, Common, Brother Ali, Gza , Eminem and Joe Budden. I could go on and on cause there’s so many people that inspired me, but that’s a good selection to start from. As for a title of a song it would depend which artist. Cause with Common I’d want to make a inspirational/social commentary type song. With Gza I’d make something with a weird name like “Lyrical Inferno” just to keep up with the crazy Wu tang concepts (laughs).

While “Windows To My Soul” is out right now, what is next for GT ?

I’m just going to perform as much as I can, network with people, and touch as many people as I can with this project. As for a next project, well that depends on the response from the people. Cause I was only going to make great Hip-Hop singles from now on, but if the people hunger for another GT album I will go back to the drawling board and come back better than ever.

So you plan on getting signed soon or just putting out music for the fun and staying independent?

I don’t mind getting signed if the deal is right but I do music for the love anyway. So weather I get on 106 n park or I’m just rhyming in a cypher somewhere I’m going to represent the culture the best way I can.
