By way of South Carolina comes an artist that enjoys meshing multiple syllables along with genre bending production as found on his latest single, “You And Me”. The Columbia rapper also debuted a video for the single that pretty much sums up the previous description but visually. GYBU took notice to CrimsonMuzik and wanted to get to know more about him and “You And Me”. So without any further delay, it’s time to #GetBuzzed with CrimsonMuzik.

Crimson, thank you for joining us to #GetBuzzed. For starters, your name is pretty interesting. The viewers and I can obviously see you’re a redhead. Does that play any part in your stage name? What is the meaning behind your moniker?

Hahaha, yeah man you called it! It’s not really a subtle alias at all. The story behind it was when I had first started rapping I was going by Big Red (absolutely terrible… I know) and an artist pretty involved in the NYC underground scene heard some of my stuff and told his cousin Townsend James, “that Big Red shit is stupid! He should be called Crimson”. I took his advice thankfully and tagged the ‘Muzik’ on the end of it to brand it a little better since if you Google ‘Crimson rapper’ or anything like that you’d never find me. Certainly not at that point in my career. (Laughs)

We caught wind of your latest single and was sold once viewing the video. What was it like working with Innovative Experience and how did you guys conjure up the scene concepts? Things get pretty wild around 3:50! Another thing, what is the meaning behind the mirror scene? Is that supposed to represent the good and bad side of CrimsonMuzik?

Thank you so much man! Yeah, the video is doing really well. It seems like every day I look at it to check on it’s performance, it’s still climbing. I’m very blessed that people are connecting to it like that. Working with Ten Hawkins of Innovative Experience was a lot of fun. He had a lot of great ideas and was skilled at making me feel comfortable in front of the camera the whole time. All the scene concepts were my vision; I had essentially brought him the idea and just asked if he could capture it for me, do the editing and along the way he had a ton of insight. Stuff that a videographer knows that a rapper simply doesn’t. (Laughs) It’s funny you brought up that section of the video because I remember we wanted that scene to be even more ‘steamy’ and sexual but decided to pass because Ten was sure his girlfriend would not approve hahaha! Which was fine because looking back on it, I think we still communicated the message pretty effectively in that scene.

Townsend James of Audio Therapy Productions is responsible for this cross-genre, radio ready smash. The two of you make great music together. How did you guys go about creating such a strongly constructed record with “You And Me”?

It’s a very interesting story actually. He and I started rapping together when we were 16 in the small rural town we grew up in: Broadway, Virginia. The town literally had like 2 stop lights and more corn fields and cattle than you can count! (Laughs) He has since started a very successful career under the moniker ‘TJ Pompeo’ and he actually made that beat for himself originally. I pitched my hook to him for it initially since he has a bigger platform than me right now. I wanted to get some writer’s credits on his project so that I could potentially work with some bigger artists as a writer. It turned out that he didn’t want use the beat after he’d thought about it and wrestled with the hook and all, so I took it off his hands and did my thing with it. Thus was born “You And Me”. He’s great man, he mixes all my stuff and does all the crazy special effects you hear in the mix and all that, and since we’ve known each other since we were like 12 everything just comes real natural to us. I’m looking forward to our next creation!

Is “You And Me” available online? Also, for anyone wanting to keep up with you online or for more music, where can they be directed to?

Will “You And Me” be featured on an upcoming project of yours? What’s up next for you after campaigning this release?

“You And Me” is actually just going to stand on its own for now. I’m working on a project that I’m calling “Drink Responsibly”. It’s a 7 track EP where I’m really just explaining my experiences with alcohol, lessons I’ve learned in those times and overall just good vibes. There’s a bit of that multi-genre crossover but it’s primarily a modern hip hop sound. My whole goal with it is just to prove that even when a song’s concept is seemingly straight forward, I can pack it full of substance without losing any excitement or vibe in the track as a whole. Basically I don’t want to make music that only has a place in a night club or at house party. I want to take that sound and deepen our expectations of what’s possible in ‘Turn Up’ music.

We really appreciate you taking the time to let us get to know a little bit about you and “You And Me” Crimson. Before we bring things to a close, is there anything else you’d like to share with our viewers?

Absolutely man, I really appreciate you guys getting me involved in the #GetBuzzed series. The support that GYBU has shown throughout this release has been very humbling and appreciated, so thank you for that. I guess I’ll sign off by saying that I’m excited for the future and I hope you’re ready for what’s coming!
